Co-curricular Activities

Our College lays utmost importance on co-curricular activities. Besides the statutory College Union, it has a number of clubs , societies and associations, about which information is given in detail for the benefit of the students. Talented faculty members supervise the activities of these clubs and associations. Each department has its own Subject Association which organizes various programmes related to their fields.

Clubs and Associations open the door to a new world of knowledge and experience. At D B Pampa College, we have a host of Clubs and Associations. Apart from enhancing students’ academic lives, Clubs do help to explore talents and build new friendships

Literary Club
The Literary club ‘Kalakshara’ has conducted a series of programmes during the academic year 2014-2015. It was decided to conduct one programme every month. The series of contests started with the Debate Competition in July. The students participated actively in teams of two. The topic for discussion was ‘Is Media on the Right Path?’ The students argued for and against the topic and many facets of the problem was highlighted in the debate. JustA-Minute Programme organized by the club in August was indeed helpful in exposing the rhetoric of the students. They were given a variety of simple topics on which they talked incessantly. An Elocution programme was held in September on Impact of Media. Writing competitions in English, Malayalam, Hindi and Sanskrit, held in October was a proof that many story writers, essayists and poets are in the budding stage in our college. In collaboration with the Department of Economics, & Kalakshara organized a state level seminar and paper presentation competition on Disaster Management. Invited talks on the concerned topic were very informative. The students from our college performed well as paper presenters. A Book Review Session was held in December in which some famous novels were discussed. The Literary Quiz Competition in January tested the knowledge of students in literatures in four languages. As the culmination of events, a literary appreciation event was held and it was an opportunity for the students to evaluate literature and express their ideas. Placement and Counceling Cell
Placement and counseling cell of D B Pampa College Parumala in association with M G University Employment Information and Guidance Bureau has conducted a one day workshop on PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT AND INTERVIEW TECHNIQUES on 9th February 2015 at the college Seminar Hall. It mainly aims at the final year UG and PG students. Smt. Sunrima K.V (MEMBER, Placement and Counseling cell) welcomed the gathering. Hon.Principal Dr.PP Chanrasekhara Pillai presided the function. The function was inaugurated by Prof.Sathish Kochuparampil (Member, Syndicate M G University). Dr.V.Prakash (NAAC Co-Ordinator), Prof. N Devadath (PTA secretary), Smt. Ushakumri(Deputy chief, M G University employment information and Guidance bureau) etc offered felicitations. Dr.V Jayasree (Co coordinator Placement and counseling cell)proposed vote of thanks. The function was blessed with the informative classes taken by Mr.Sunil D Kuruvila (Motivational Speaker, HRD Trainer career counsel).The workshop was conducted in two sessions. Classes were offered on interview techniques, personality development and with many informative tips on Group Discussion, preparing Bio-data and social etiquettes. It was a highly useful and memorable event for all the participants.

Quiz Club
The main objective of the Quiz Club is to develop the intellectual capacity of our students and to create a healthy competitive spirit in them. Meetings of the club are conducted and members are encouraged and trained to participate in various competitions.

Nature Club
Nature club of Pampa college was named as “Kanikonna” and was officially inaugurated on 11th, December, 2014 at 11 am by the great environmentalist and who is also known as “Snake man of Kerala”, Vava Suresh in the presence of Principal Dr. P.P. Chandrasekhara Pillai and club coordinators Prof. Sreekala S and Dr. Jaimsha Rani. As a part of activity a medicinal plant garden was formed by the Club. The programme was conducted under the leadership of our College Principal and coordinated by Nature club coordinators. All the student members actively participated and planted about 50 medicinal plants. During this year we proposed to conduct seminars, quiz and painting completions and national days celebrations in connection with conservation of nature. Nature club of D.B.Pampa college also celebrated World forest day by planting few trees and students raised slogans with placards to convey message regarding coneservation of trees.

Swachh Bharat Mission
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched his nationwide cleanliness campaign, the ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’ or ‘Clean India Campaign’ from the Valmiki Basti in New Delhi. After paying tribute at the memorials of Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversaries, Modi addressed the nation and asked people to join the ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’ and carry it to everyone. NSS unit of DB Pampa College Parumala conducted a campus cleaning awareness rally on 15th November 2014, in unanimity with Indian Prime Minister’s ‘Swatch Bharath’ mission which aims at cleaning the whole India. The program was inaugurated by Ms Thankamani Nanappan, President, Kada Grama Panchayath. The whole NSS volunteers participated in the program which was coordinated by Program officers Dr.Vijayakumar & Dr S.Vani. The active participation of young generation in a mission to cleaning the country brings a great hope for the future of our India.

Run Kerala Run
Heralding the 35th edition of National Games which began in Kerala on January 31, a mass run titled “run Kerala run’’ was held across the state on 20th JanuaryThe run was organised to express the state’s unity and solidarity with the National Games, which was hosted by Kerala after a gap of 27 years from January 31-February 14. Lakhs of people from various walks of life filled the streets in the state to join the “run Kerala run,’’ which was officially flagged off by governor P Sathasivam in front of the state secretariat. National Games good will ambassador Sachin Tendulkar led the run in the state capital. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, his cabinet colleagues, political leaders and sports persons government employees, teachers and students lined up for the event not only in the state capital, but in the entire state. D.B Pampa College under the leadership of principal Dr.P.P. Chandrashekra Pillai wholeheartedly supported the national games and actively participated in this event. In our college “run Kerala run’’was flagged off by Ksheera Karshaka Welfare Board Chairman Sri John Jacob Vallakalli. Kadapra Grama panchayat President Smt Thankamma Nanappan and other members along with entire staff and students joined hand in hand to make this event a grand success. All participants took the pledge of 35th National games before the start of run. Department wise competition facilitated maximum students’ participation with colorful costumes, placards, ribbons etc. Along with students Faculty members also participated in run, which extended from College to Mannar Thrikkurutti Mhadeva Temple.

Vanitha Vedi
Vanitha vedi of our college has been very active throughout the year and has organised many competitions for students like x’mas programme, Drawing and painting competitions in connection with Swach Bharat Abhiyan, Placement & Counceling Cell Vanitha Vedi Sanmbharam sale on sports day to name a few . Vanitha vedi has published the Vanitha Newsletter ‘Aksharam’and has also sponsored the Overall Rolling Cricket Trophy for the winners of the women’s team. An exciting trip was also organized to Athirpally and Vazhachal. Kudos to the team for their splendid work!



Film Club
The first meeting of the College’s Film Club Projector, for the academic year 2014 -15, was held on 10 Sept 2014 at the College Seminar Hall. In that meeting Ananthu Ananthan of III B.Com, Jithin Thomas of II M.Com and Ananthagopan of III B.Com were elected as Club President, Secretary and Joint Secretary respectively. Rajaneesh Ramanan of II Botany, Prasanth P of III Zoology and Sreeju Pavanan of I B.Com were elected to the working committee of the Film Club. Dr. V.Prakash, Dept. of Economics, is the coordinator of the Film Club. Presently, there are eighty members in it. On 26 Sept 2014 our Principal, Dr. P. P. Chandrashekhara Pillai, inaugurated the activities of the Film Club. Later the Madhupal Film Ozhimuri, which won many National and International Awards, was shown, followed by a discussion on it. In October, November and December, the Malayalam Film Banglore Days, the Italian Film Life is Beautiful and the Spanish Film The Motorcycle Diaries were also shown.

Personality development Programme
Mrs. Stella Thomas (State womens forum general convenor) on 13thAugust, 2015 delivered a Speech on personality development where the students were made aware of the growing idiosyncrasies of our western culture and trend that may lead to a harmful lifestyle for the upcoming generations.

She also made our students to think about “what is life based on” by using quotes of famous personalities and how we can be more like them and how to make our thinking more than what our books can provide.

A TRIBUTE TO APJ ABDUL KALAM
APJ Abdul Kalam was the 11th president of India. He was widely popular by the name "Missile man" due to his contributions to the space sector of India.
In the year 2005, Abdul Kalam visited our college while achieving his mission to bring a cardiology center in the hospital of Parumala. He left his immortal mark on the grounds of scared institution by planting a Peepal tree

As a tribute to the great personality, on 28 July 2015 the students of the B.com Department worked hand in hand with each other to honor his work to the nation. All the students and the faculty members of the college gathered around the Peepal tree and paid their respects. All the students had a minute of silent prayer and lit their respective candle

Smart Seminar Hall
We are leaving in an era of advanced technologies. It is our duty to equip our college according to the changing and increasing needs of our students living in this era.

Our college has eight departments. Our actual plan is to set up a seminar hall for each of the eight departments in our college. As a first step towards implementing the plan we have arranged 3 seminar halls for each of the 3 blocks in our college. The main block is the largest block of our college consisting of five departments. In order to cater to the growing needs of all these departments a seminar hall having advanced facilitations is inevitable. Such a seminar hall having advanced new and progressive audiovisual aids has been laid out and since it caters to the needs of all the 5 departments in the main block it is named as ‘The Smart Seminar Hall’. It is our privilege to have our smart seminar hall formally inaugurated by the honourable president of TDB.

PAMPAVANAM PROJECT

As part of the Clean campus Green Campus project ,The department of commerce planted Teak saplings on 24th of June 2015 at college Campus and On July 15th in front of the Department. This programme was called "Pampa Vanam Project" in which 300 teak saplings were planted. This programme was completed in the presence of Third DC and Second DC B Com students. Whole the plants were take care and poured water every day by students. This was a great effort by the union of whole students and teachers of our college.
D B Pampa College has entered in to the 46th year of glorious educational service to the nation. Today, the college has strength of nearly 1050 students and over 55 faculty members serving in 14 departments. The college offers 8 U. G programme and 4 P. G programmes.
